Ten Ways to Avoid Car Accidents In California

Here’s how to keep accidents to a minimum.

As you pull into traffic, go slow. Stay aware of your blind spots. When at an intersection making a right, look at both directions twice before moving forward. Vehicles can come out of nowhere.

Watch out for people running a red light. Count to three before moving into an intersection on a green light. Look both ways and make sure no one is speeding through. Exercise extra caution when passing semis. Truck drivers have a huge blind spot.

Always keep at least one hand on the steering wheel. Distractions like changing radio stations, cell phones, or eating can cause a serious accident.

Watch out for kids running into roadways. Drive slow and be careful.

Perform regular engine maintenance. Change oil regularly and keeping tires inflated in good condition.

Look 12 seconds ahead. Make sure you are aware of the area you will be driving in 10-12 seconds. For highway driving, stay far enough away from other cars so if someone suddenly stops or swerves, you won’t rear-end them.

Always look backward when backing out. Fender benders in parking lots are super common. Don’t depend just on your mirrors – physically look over your right shoulder.

Never tailgate. Always leave a three-second cushion between you and the car in front of you.

Be courteous. Make sure to treat other drivers with respect.

Accidents happen. And if they happen to you are you are not at fault, it’s a smart idea to retain the services of a personal injury attorney to help you through the settlement process.
