San Jose, CA – Fernando Gardundo in Custody for Deadly DUI Crash on I-280 at 7th St
San Jose, CA (June 21, 2019) – A man was taken into custody due to his alleged involvement in a fatal DUI collision that happened in San Jose on Friday morning, June 21st. The crash happened at about 12:03 a.m. and took the life of a young woman and injured two others.
On I-280 traveling northbound, 21-year-old Fernando Gardundo lost control of his vehicle while attempting to take the exit ramp toward 7th St., according to the California Highway Patrol. This resulted in four women traveling in a 2002 BMW being ejected from their vehicle. All four occupants of the BMW were unrestrained at the time of the collision.
A 21-year-old occupant of the silver BMW was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and two others were critically injured, 18 and 26 years of age respectively. Their identities and current conditions have been withheld.
It is believed that intoxication played a role in the rollover collision, and the crash is still currently under investigation.
