San Juan Capistrano, CA- 1 Dead and 1 Hurt in Crash on Ortega Hwy Near Caspers Wilderness Park

San Juan Capistrano, CA (April 24, 2019)- Ortega Highway (Highway 74) close to Caspers Park Road was the site of a deadly crash at around 5:39 am on Monday.

According to reports, a 34-year-old South Gate man died after a 1999 Dodge Ram and a 2016 Dodge pickup crashed head-on after the 2016 truck swerved across the yellow centerlines. Both vehicles were severely damaged in the collision.

The driver of the 1999 Dodge died at the scene. His name has not been released pending family notification. His passenger, a 30-year-old, sustained major injuries and was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. His current condition is unknown.

The driver of the 2016 Dodge experienced minor injuries.

The damaged vehicles blocked lanes in both directions until their removal.

The cause of the accident is not currently known. An investigation is underway.
