Sanger, CA (July 30, 2018) – Fresno local news sources reported that a police officer was injured as the result of a suspected DUI hit-and-run accident that took place at the junction of North and Academy Avenues. The incident took place in the morning on Saturday, July 28, 2018. As of now, authorities have identified the victim as Sergio Arguello, a Sanger Police Officer. No further details about the male suspect driver and his two passengers have been released at this time.
According to the reports, Officer Arguello was driving westbound along North Avenue while, in the vicinity, a black Nissan operated by the male motorist was traveling north down Academy. Without warning, the Nissan sped through a red light and slammed into a police car. Sometime later, paramedics were sent to the crash site and rendered aid to Arguello, who suffered a concussion from the impact and was sent to a hospital to receive more in-depth treatment.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the male driver and his two passengers abandoned the Nissan and escaped. Authorities soon found two suspects in the 1200 block of Oliver Street.
Reports have affirmed the driver had consumed alcohol prior to operating the vehicle. He was arrested on charges of DUI and hit-and-run felony and was later interred at Fresno County Jail.
