Santa Cruz, CA – Family of Three Struck by Suspected Drunk Driver on East Cliff Drive
Santa Cruz, CA (March 17, 2019) – A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving on Saturday, March 16th, just after 6:30 p.m. The driver hit three pedestrians and one parked car on East Cliff Drive, near Assembly Avenue.
The pedestrian victims are thought to be a family of three, according to witness reports. They were hanging out on a wall, looking at the ocean, when the car struck them. Emergency responders were called to the scene to render aid and assist the injured. All three victims ended up in the hospital with injuries, although they are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.
California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. East Cliff Drive was closed immediately after the crash but has now been reopened.
CHP stated that the driver may have been in an earlier hit-and-run accident on First and Atlantic Avenues that happened on Saturday.
