Santa Maria, CA – Two People Killed and Another Critically Injured in Suspected DUI Crash

Santa Maria, CA (March 16, 2019) – A suspected DUI-related accident involving two vehicles occurred on March 16th around 3 a.m. that took the life of two people and severely injured a third.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of this fatal accident.  According to CHP officers, the crash occurred on Donovan Road and Miller Street in Santa Maria.

The alleged impaired driver was Javier Artemio Cortes, 27, of Santa Maria. He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and vehicular manslaughter.

Officers came to the scene and discovered the two vehicles that were involved in the collision. Two of the occupants of one of the vehicles were ejected from the car and into the road. As a result, these individuals died on the scene and a third victim is in critical condition.

The names of the deceased victims have not yet been released and the investigation is ongoing.
