Shafter, California – Fatal Collision on Highway 43 and Burbank Street Leaves Two Dead and Two Wounded
Shafter, California (June 27, 2018) – Bakersfield local news reported that a fatal collision involving a Honda and utility truck took place at the meeting of Highway 43 and Burbank Street. The incident occurred at approximately 9:40 PM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Authorities have identified the driver of the utility truck as 46-year old Bakersfield resident Steve Garza. The identities of the Honda driver and the two deceased passengers have not been revealed at this time.
The California Highway Patrol explained that Garza had been driving towards the intersection of Highway 43 and Burbank Street. At the same time, the driver of the Honda was traveling down Highway 43 and had attempted to turn left onto Burbank Street. Without warning, the utility truck crashed into the Honda, resulting in the accident.
As a result of the crash, the Honda driver sustained serious injuries from the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. This individual has been listed as being in critical condition.
Reports sadly indicated that two more passengers who had been riding in the Honda sustained traumatic injuries and died sometime later.
Meanwhile, news sources reported that Steve Garza had also sustained injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Center. After Garza’s release from the hospital, law enforcement will arrest him on the charge of vehicular manslaughter.
