Drowsy Drivers Cause Serious Accidents
In a large-scale 2018 driving survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 8.8-9.5% of survey participants who were in crashes showed signs of drowsy driving, and 10.6-10.8% of survey participants who were in serious motor vehicle accidents demonstrated signs of drowsy driving.
Drowsy driving is as much a type of negligent driving as driving under the influence, driving while texting or driving while otherwise distracted. Drowsy driving is most likely to happen at night, but it is also common in the evenings and mornings.
