Sonoma, CA – 6 Injured in Head-On Collision on Highway 12
Sonoma, CA (January  14, 2019) At 6:30 p.m. on January 13th, a head-on collision happened on Highway 12, near East Watmaugh Road. According to the reports, 48-year-old Ty Randol Caton was driving a 2016 Range Rover on Highway 12 while 52-year-old Martin Arias Barajas was driving his 2013 Chevrolet Captiva SUV. Caton is believed to have crossed the double yellow line for unknown reasons and crashed head-on into Barajas.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene to help, they found Barajas and his passenger, 45-year-old Maria Celina Barajas, pinned inside of the Chevrolet. Once freed, Barajas was airlifted to Kaiser Hospital in serious condition and his passenger was airlifted to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa. Caton was transported via ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for moderate injuries.
There were three other passengers in Barajas’ vehicle who were all injured and transported to the Napa hospital. They were 52-year-old Lucy Barrera, 18-year-old Miriam Nolazzo, and a 15-year-old girl.
The police are currently investigating  this accident to determine causation and liability.
We are relieved to know that none of six people involved in this accident lost their lives. We hope they all fully recover from their injuries.
Head-On Collisions in California
The leading cause of most head-on collisions is drunk driving, which may have been the cause of this accident. It’s easy for drunk drivers to veer past the double line because after too much alcohol consumption, they begin losing control of their bodies and their vehicles. Their vision is blurred, their perception is altered, and their reaction times are slowed. There are also other factors that contribute to head-on crashes, such as poorly lit roads and bad road conditions.
The police are thoroughly investigating this accident to see if any of these factors were the reason why Caton crossed the double line and struck Barajas’ vehicle. Once they finalize their reports, it’s likely that multiple personal injury lawsuits will be filed with the help of a California personal injury attorney.
