Stockton, CA – Abel Rodriguez Dies in Fatal DUI Bicycle Accident on Wilson Way
Stockton, CA (January 22, 2019) On the 18th of January, a fatal DUI bicycle accident happened on Wilson Way near Oak Street at about 6:00 p.m. According to the reports, a 20-year-old bicyclist named Abel Rodriguez was riding his bicycle when a drunk driver in a Toyota struck him. The driver was speeding down the street without headlights on when the accident happened.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, Rodriguez had already suffered fatal injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the accident, but so far, they’ve identified the responsible driver as 24-year-old Jesse Fletes. The police arrested Fletes on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence, and driving with a blood alcohol content level of .08 percent or higher.
We are saddened to learn that Abel Rodriguez lost his life in this DUI accident. We send our condolences to his family and hope that they are able to find comfort and peace at this difficult time.
DUI & Bicycle Accidents in California
Studies show that drivers between the ages of 21-24 cause the most DUI accidents, which was the case for this accident since Fletes is only 24 years old. Studies also show that in 2016, 840 bicyclists were killed in the United States, with causes varying but all leading back to negligent driving. Because this accident was a result of negligent behavior, Rodriguez’ family could file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death attorney.
