Sutter County, CA- Crash Kills one and Injures Five on Hwy 99 Near Clark Rd
Sutter County, CA (July 1, 2019)- The California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99 near Clark Road that left one person dead and five hurt at approximately 4:30 pm Sunday.
The CHP says that a southbound traveling 2008 Ford F-150 moving at approximately 15 miles per hour hit the back end of a 1999 Acura Integra.
When the vehicles struck, the Acura was sent into the northbound lane, where a juvenile Wheatland resident was ejected from the Acura and passed away at the crash site. The driver of the Acura, identified as Jorge Yanzperez, and a passenger in the Acura, sustained major injuries.
Following the collision with the Acura, the truck continued on Hwy 99’s southbound lanes and hit a 2008 Honda CRV, which was also moving at around 15 miles per hour. The force of this impact caused the Ford to roll over and eject the driver onto the highway’s east side shoulder.
The overturned Ford blocked the lanes, causing a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and a 2010 Acura Integra to crash into the damaged vehicles.
The Ford driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The 2010 Acura Integra driver and passenger experienced minor injuries.
While the CHP states that substances are not thought to be factors in the crash, the Ford’s driver was reportedly texting when the original crash occurred.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased at this time. Our thoughts are with them.
Our thoughts are with Jorge Yanzperez, the other injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for full recoveries.
Texting Banned on California Roadways
California banned texting by drivers in 2009. Unfortunately, many people completely disregard this law and continue to text while driving as though they are immune to accidents or injuries. This disrespectful and dangerous habit leads to many serious– and often fatal– crashes in California every year.
Texting is one of the most offensive types of distracted driving because it’s common knowledge that removing your eyes from the road to type or read a phone screen sets up takes just enough time to collide with another vehicle. If you’ve been hurt or lost a loved one due to a distracted driver, it’s vital that you contact an attorney who works with car accident injuries.
