Tractor-Trailer Crash on 5 North Freeway in Firebaugh

A collision resulting in detrimental injury was reported by the California Highway Patrol Tuesday, June 12. The crash that involved a large tractor-trailer and one other vehicle occurred on the I-5 North Freeway near the Shields Avenue exit at approximately 12:15 a.m. Authorities promptly arrived on the scene after being notified about the early morning crash.

Large Tractor-Trailer Crash Investigation in Firebaugh

The big rig tractor-trailer was reportedly hauling around 80,000 pounds of cargo which subsequently resulted in the large truck being flipped onto its side after the crash. The exact details of how this accident happened have not yet been provided, although a thorough investigation is being conducted. The driver of the vehicle that was involved was reportedly pinned inside due to the severity of the wreck.

One person, most likely the driver of the other vehicle, had to be airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. The injuries suffered in this crash have been confirmed as very serious, however, the exact extent of injuries is still unspecified. At the moment, it is still uncertain as to whether or not the driver of the tractor-trailer was also injured, or if there was anyone else involved. Eppler Towing provided two tow trucks to assist and remove both of the vehicles from the roadway. Officials from the California Highway Patrol remained at the scene for nearly four hours investigating the crash.

So long as the driver of the tractor-trailer was considered to be working at the time of the collision, the trucking company that employs the driver could likely be held liable for the crash. Of course, a detailed investigation is ongoing to prove exactly who was at fault, whether or not drugs and/or alcohol were involved, and to see if there were any mechanical failures with either vehicle.

If it is determined that any negligence on behalf of the truck driver played a role in the crash, then the victim will most likely be able to hold the trucking company responsible for all injuries and economic losses associated with the crash. A personal injury lawsuit may be a viable option, although that decision is always left up to the victim.
