Tulelake, CA – Multiple People Injured after Two-Vehicle Collision near Highway 139 and Highway 161
Tulelake, CA (July 31, 2018) – Siskiyou County local news sources reported that multiple people sustained injuries after a two-vehicle collision that took place in the vicinity of Highway 139 and Highway 161. The incident occurred around 9:52 AM in the morning on Sunday, July 29, 2018. At this time, no detailed information concerning the identities of the eight people involved in the crash has been revealed.
According to initial reports, a dark blue 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling on the westbound lanes of Highway 161. After approaching the junction with Highway 139, the unidentified driver did not decrease speed and exercise caution at a designated stop sign. At the same time, a bronze 2011 Toyota minivan was heading north along 139 and passed through the intersection. Without warning, the Sierra sped past the stop sign and plowed into the van.
First responders confirmed eight people in total were seriously injured during the impact. Later, medical personnel transported the victims to nearby hospitals to receive treatment for trauma.
Amongst the wounded, a 17-year old woman and a 16-year old boy sustained the most severe injuries. After the crash, the two juveniles were transported via air ambulance to a trauma center in Portland, Oregon, where they have been listed in critical states.
Presently, investigators are looking into possible causes for this brutal accident.
