Visalia, CA – DUI Hit and Run Accident on Walnut Ave
Visalia, CA (November 13, 2018) – The intersection of Ben Maddox Way and Ferguson Avenue saw a motorcyclist hit by a drunk driver who then fled the scene.
James Putnam, 72, was intoxicated and behind the wheel when he cruised through the intersection, slamming into the motorcycle and its rider. Putnam then proceeded to continue driving, abandoning the injured rider and the scene of the accident. Upon further investigation, law enforcement officers discovered that Putnam was the cause behind a series of collisions on Walnut Avenue and Garden Street just a bit earlier in the evening. Putnam’s night on the town culminated in the hit and run accident which was quickly followed by him plowing into the side of someone’s home.
Putnam was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The name or the condition of the motorcyclist has not yet been released as the investigation into this situation is still underway.
Drunk Driving in California
We would like to extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the man who was injured in this hit and run accident.
Between 2003 and 2012 there have been 10,327 people killed as a result of drunk driving accidents in the state of California. The 21 to 34 age group makes up the majority of this number but is still well below the national average. Drivers with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher are legally considered to be too intoxicated to drive, yet they still account for one-third of all vehicle accidents.
If you have been injured in a car accident that was caused by a driver who was under the influence of drugs or alcohol it is in the best interest of your claim to hire a qualified attorney as soon as you can. In order to collect top dollar on all of your damages, you are going to have to be able to prove that the other driver was too intoxicated to legally be behind the wheel.
