Vista, CA – Multiple People Injured after Dangerous Police Pursuit and Resulting Traffic Collision on East Vista Way near Highway 76

Vista, CA (August 9, 2018) – A local news source reported that multiple people sustained injuries as the result of a dangerous police pursuit of a suspected DUI driver and a resulting traffic collision that took place on East Vista Way, in the vicinity of Highway 76. The incident occurred a little after 2:20 AM in the early morning hours on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Authorities have identified the culprit as 20-year old San Marcos resident Christian Avila-Ramos. No detailed information about the identities of Avila-Ramos’ four passengers or the additional parties involved in the crash has been revealed at this time.

Based on the initial report from the California Highway Patrol, Avila-Ramos was driving a Nissan Sentra, its high beams flashing, at a dangerous rate of speed down East Vista. At some point, a traffic officer attempted to stop the oncoming vehicle, but the Nissan continued speeding down the road. Later, Avila-Ramos drove through a red light and plowed into Hyundai Sonata and a Toyota Corolla at the junction of Highway 76.

Officials confirmed that Avila-Ramos and the 19-year old woman riding in the Nissan had been severely injured during the impact and were sent to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment.

Meanwhile, Avila-Ramos’ second 19-year old female passenger and a 65-year old man who had been driving the Hyundai were brought to Palomar Medical Center, where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries of varying degrees.

Likewise, the two male passengers from the Nissan, an 18-year old and a 19-year old, also sustained non-life threatening injuries but did not need treatment at a hospital.

The two occupants of the Toyota did not suffer injuries during the impact.

Following a release from the hospital, Avila-Ramos will reportedly be arrested for suspected DUI, a felony, and evading the authorities and sent to county jail.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing.
