Whittier, CA – Five People Injured in DUI Accident on 60 Freeway
Whittier, CA (February 20, 2019) – On Tuesday morning, around 2:50 a.m., five people received injuries due to a DUI accident involving a California Highway Patrol patrol car on the 60 Freeway.
At the time, two CHP officers had been in their patrol car stopped on the side of the roadway so that they could help somebody parked on the side of the road. They pulled over to help the driver, which was when a second vehicle came down the freeway and struck the patrol vehicle. The two officers were outside their vehicle at the time and their patrol car was pushed into them as they were standing nearby.
The car spun around and ended up in the middle lanes of the highway, where it was then struck by another driver. Paramedics arrived at the scene to assist those who were injured.
Five people were transported to the hospital and two were listed in stable condition. Police arrested 23-year-old Adrian Estrada on suspicion of drunk driving.
At this time, the investigation into the accident continues.
We would like to take a moment to extend our deepest sympathies to those involved in this accident, with the hopes that they will be able to recover from their injuries during this difficult time.
