Woodland, CA- Child Killed in Accident on 5 Fwy and County Rd 22
Woodland, CA (June 20, 2019)- A five-year-old child was killed and three other children were injured on Tuesday when a Nissan pickup truck was struck by a BMW in the northbound lanes of 5 Freeway near County Road 22.
The crash, which happened near the Sacramento International Airport at approximately 9 pm, occurred when a BMW driving at a high rate of speed by 34-year-old Sacramento resident Shane Carlyle struck a Nissan pickup truck.
The impact of the crash caused the truck to run off the road and into an embankment, overturning in a field. A five-year-old boy was killed in the crash. Three girls ages 5,7, and 9 suffered serious injuries and were taken to UC Davis Medical Center. The children’s father and driver of the truck, 29-year-old Woodland resident Luis Figueroa, also suffered major injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center.
Carlyle, who was driving on probation for DUI, sustained minor inquiries. After treatment, he was arrested and booked at the Yolo County Jail under suspicion of manslaughter and DUI.
The crash is under investigation.
