Prevent Injuries In Auto Accidents In California

There are tons of car accidents every year. Car accidents can be severe or minor, but even a low impact car crash can lead to serious injuries. The best way to protect yourself is to learn how to avoid injuries in auto accidents.

Wear Seat Belts – Wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the risk of serious injuries in a car crash. Check your seat belt to ensure it is fastened properly. Make sure that it is secure and is not twisted. Adjust the lap belt so it sits as low as possible across your hips. Check the positioning of the shoulder belt. It should run across the middle of your chest and then over your shoulder.

Adjust Seats – Adjust your seat so it is far away from the airbags. Adjust the positioning of the back of the seat. It’s important to be sitting upright. Sit as far back as possible in the seat so your back is flat. Adjust the headrest so the back of your head makes contact with the center of the headrest when you sit back.

Sit Up – Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor. Why does posture matter? Every car is designed with safety features, but, these safety features are to protect people who are sitting up properly.

Adjust the Steering Wheel – Sit in the driver’s seat to determine whether the steering wheel is pointing at your chest or face. If it’s pointed at your face, adjust the wheel.

Pay Attention – Your chances of an accident when distracted are exponentially higher than if you are staying focused while driving.

Unfortunately, even if you try to be very careful, you can still sustain injuries in a car accident. If that happens, contact an experienced personal injury attorney to recover compensation.
