Carmichael, CA – Teen Driver Hits Two Pedestrians Killing One on Arden Way

Carmichael, CA (March 23, 2019) – A pedestrian accident involving a teenage driver that took the life of one person and injured another occurred on Friday morning.

The two pedestrian victims, both 72-year-old women, were walking along Arden Way near McClaren Drive on March 22nd. There was no sidewalk on the road.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of this serious accident. According to CHP, the 16-year-old driver accidentally swerved onto the shoulder where the women were traversing.

Emergency responders were called to the scene to render aid. Both women were transported to the hospital with major injuries, with one succumbing to those injuries.

Drugs or alcohol were not factors in the collision and it is unknown what led to the crash.

Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when it is unexpected. We would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the woman who tragically lost her life in this accident. We hope that they are to find strength and peace during this difficult time. As well, we extend our hope that the injured woman makes a full recovery.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California

Pedestrian accidents, unfortunately, happen very frequently, especially in high volume areas. Many people walk, skateboard, rollerblade, jog, or run to get around town. When they interact with motor vehicles, crashes can – and do – happen. This can happen on a sidewalk, in an intersection, in a crosswalk or on the street. This happens all over California.

The statistics do not lie:

  • A pedestrian accident happens every two hours;
  • Pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to die in a traffic accident than a driver or passenger of a vehicle;
  • People that are 65 years old or older account for 20% of fatalities in these kinds of accidents;
  • Being struck by a car is the number one cause for the death of children between the ages of 5 and 15; and
  • Impairment is a factor in 48 percent of all incidents.

Getting hit by a car can result in serious injury or can be fatal. If your family member died as a result of a careless driver, a wrongful death claim will allow you to pursue justice. Compensation for a wrongful pedestrian death can help replace lost income, pay medical and burial expenses, and punish the negligent driver by holding them accountable.

If you or a family member has been involved in a pedestrian accident that was caused by the negligence or recklessness of another driver, you need to call a personal injury lawyer and file a claim today. At the Brady Law Group, our team of experienced litigators will not rest until we make sure justice is served for you. Call us today at 866-478-6483 to speak with a litigator about your accident.
