Vista, CA – Matthew Keegan Pedestrian Killed in Crash on CA-78 Vista Near Emerald Dr.

Vista, CA (May 4, 2019) – A multi-vehicle pedestrian accident involving two vehicles occurred on April 30 at 8:20 p.m. that took the life of one person.

The pedestrian killed the crash on Tuesday night has been identified as 36-year-old Matthew Keegan.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of this fatal accident. The 36-year-old man, who was described as transient, was trying to cross the highway between Emerald Dr. and South Melrose Dr. when he was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup. A second car, a Mazda3 hatchback, also collided into Keegan while he was in the roadway. Keegan was walking south but was hit on the eastbound side.

Emergency responders were called to the scene to render aid to Matthew Keegan. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center for treatment and further evaluation. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m. from multiple blunt force injuries.

Roadways were closed pending investigations, but are now reopened.
