Fresno, CA (January 23, 2019) O the morning of January 21st, a fatal pedestrian accident happened on the northbound Highway 99 near the Olive Avenue off ramp. According to the reports, a vehicle struck a 33-year-old woman named Cera Bowman in the middle of the highway. A witness spotted Bowman before she got hit and called 9-1-1 right before the accident happened. After the driver stuck her, the driver turned around to check to see if she was okay.
When emergency crews arrived, they found Bowman dead at the scene. Fortunately, the driver responsible remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities as they investigated. The driver insisted to not have seen Bowman on the highway prior to striking her.
We are sorry that Bowman lost her life in this accident. Our thoughts are with her family as they face this challenging time.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
Studies show that the reason why the number of pedestrian fatalities increases every year is because the number of distracted drivers increases every year. Distracted driving includes using a cell phone, driving under the influence, driving fatigued, conversing with passengers, searching for lost items, disciplining children, eating, grooming, and more. Even if it’s not a driver’s intent to put themselves in harm’s way by taking their eyes off the wheel, they still risk seriously injuring or killing themselves and others.
The police are investigating to see why Bowman was walking in the middle of the highway, and why the driver did not see her. They’re checking to see whether the driver was distracted at the time of the crash. Once they finish their investigation, it’s likely that Bowman’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death attorney.
