PG&E Sued by Insurers as Many Attempt to Recover
Many insurance companies are stepping forward in the next wave of lawsuits alleging negligence on behalf of the Pacific Gas and Electric Co., also known as PG&E. The insurance companies stated that they are demanding compensation after taking on thousands of claims for those who have suffered devastating damages in the California Camp Fire.Â
The lawsuits have allegedly been filed by Allstate, State Farm, and USAA after the devastation that burned through specific towns like Paradise, Magalia and Concow, just north of Sacramento. Investigators have not yet pinpointed the cause but continue to investigate at this time. The insurance companies noted that the fire began near the site of a transmission line irregularity that the utility company actually reported at the time. Â Â
The insurance companies have been left to struggle as they deal with the fact that over 14,000 people have lost their homes or businesses and now they are on the hook to take care of billions of dollars in insurance claims. What happens if the insurance companies aren’t able to pay after an unexpected disaster like this? Their one and only option stems from turning to the company who caused the devastation by bringing a lawsuit and hoping that the liable party will pay. If you are somebody who has suffered the effects of the California Camp Fire, you might wonder how the insurance claim process is supposed to go.
Claims Process Following InjuriesÂ
If you have suffered serious damages in the Camp Fire, including those who have received injuries that they have had to cover on their own, you must report the incident to your insurance company. If another party was at fault for the accident or event, an investigation into the claim will take place to determine who is liable for your injuries. If PG&E is found to be liable for the injuries of thousands of people, there is a good chance that they will have to pay up to the insurance companies, who will be helping many people after they have suffered these devastating effects.
The only downside is that, while many are waiting for their settlement check after receiving damages in the Camp Fire, they might continue to sit in limbo wondering how they are going to cover the bills that continue to pile up. The investigation into the Camp Fire is ongoing at this time while investigators take a deeper look at the cause of the fire and attempt to pin the blame on a company that might be responsible. In the meantime, many claims are either accepted or get denied, leaving many people in an uncomfortable place as they play a waiting game with the insurance company and investigators.
