Spinal Cord Injuries

Spinal cord injuries are among the most traumatic and life altering injuries a person can suffer.  Cases involving spinal cord injuries can be extremely difficult and they require the skill of a seasoned trial attorney.  At The Brady Law Group, we have the experience and resources to handle even the most complex spinal cord injury cases.

In 1995 actor Christopher Reeve fell off a horse and suffered a severe spinal cord injury.  He was paralyzed from the neck down.  After his injury, Reeve became a dedicated advocate and a true inspiration for millions of other severely injured people around the world.  The prevalence of severe spinal cord injuries like those suffered by Christopher Reeve is shocking.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are more than 11,000 new spinal cord injuries each year in the United States.  Recent statistics also show that between 200,000 and 300,000 people in the U.S. currently have a long-term disability related to a spinal cord injury.

The spinal cord is a collection of nerves which originate near the base of the brain and travel down the back.  It runs through the spinal canal which is protected on all sides by the bones of the vertebrae.  There are 31 sets of nerves which exit the spinal cord at various levels along the spine.  These nerves allow the brain to control the rest of the body, including the muscles and organs.  The nerves which exit from the top of the spinal cord control the arms while the nerves which exit the lower portion of the spinal cord control the legs.  When the spinal cord is injured, for example in a serious car accident, it can result in the loss of movement and feeling in the area of the body below the level of the injury.  In most cases, the further up the spinal cord the injury happens, the more severe the injury will be.

Individuals who have suffered severe spinal cord injuries, especially those who have been rendered paraplegic or quadriplegic, will require a great deal of support and assistance for the rest of their lives.  The costs associated with meeting the long-term needs of a spinal cord injury victim can be astronomical.  Therefore, obtaining the maximum possible recovery in a post-accident lawsuit will be critical to the future well-being of both the victim and their family.

With heart-felt compassion and aggressive advocacy, The Brady Law Group can help spinal cord injury victims get the compensation they need to move forward with their lives.  If you or someone you love has suffered a severe spinal cord injury and you suspect that another person’s negligence or defective product is to blame, contact The Brady Law Group for a free, confidential case evaluation.
